2021 – It’s a family affair at Michelini I Mufatto with winemakers Gerardo Michelini, Andrea Mufatto and their son Manuel Michelini. In 2019 they founded their winery high in the Uco Valley in Tupungato region, located in one of the highest vineyard elevations in the world. The soil composition, a composition rich in granite and calcium carbonate, definitely adds to the terroir qualities that come through in their wines,. They produce a range of wines made with Semillon, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Each expression in the bottle displays vitality, balance, tension and elegance that is stylistically Michelini I Mufatto.
The Michelini I Mufatto Balsa de Piedra Tintas is a blend of 60% Malbec and 40% Cabernet Franc, fermented together with partial clusters in concrete vats with indigenous yeasts, then aged in large used French oak barrels for 15 months. The result is nothing less than sublime, displaying fresh floral aromas of violets interlaced with sour cherries, raspberry, blueberry and macerated herbs. If the nose doesn’t win you over then the texture on the palate will with a smooth, silky texture, flavorful which envelopes the mouthfeel and a long vivacious finish. This is not a wine to be missed at this price and is perfect for the most sophisticated dinner party, but we would prefer to enjoy it with a friend over a charcuterie board.
