2019 – This historic wine estate was founded in around 1605 along the Mosel River in Germany. Fritz Haag has passed through the centuries down to its current generation of producers, Oliver and Wilhelm Haag. Feeling the pressure of their predecessors’ legacy, the pair work tirelessly to bring perfection in every bottle from their entry level wines up to their single vineyard estate bottlings. Their job is made a little easier simply by the fact they own the best vineyards in the Mosel.
This is a Trocken, meaning very dry with only minimal grams of residual sugar left per liter. It is an absolutely gorgeous wine in the glass displaying its pedigree and grace that demands your attention. The wine is vibrant with real depth and complexity, offering up classic aromas of wet slate, fresh apricot, white peach, and white flower. It has a very precise palate structure with tension and salinity that frames an incredibly intense fruit core which lingers into the longest of finishes. This 94 point Wine Advocate rated wine may leave you needing to take in a full breath of fresh air and having a tissue handy to dry your tears after trying this amazing juice. A favorite pairing for a beautiful riesling like this is sashimi, oysters on the half shell or shellfish.
