Olianas Cannonau di Sardegna is the quintessential red of Sardinia. Cannonau is a very close relative to the grape variety Grenache. After hand harvesting the grapes, they are fermented with natural yeasts in a mix of clay amphorae and stainless steel. The amphorae gives the wine its depth and natural earthy character, while the stainless retains the freshness and quality of the fruit. This is a very stylish wine with a dark ruby color that displays a dense core in the glass. Upfront wild rosemary, herbal notes are layered between red raspberry, cherry, blackberry fruits, pepper and a distinct orange/tangerine laced throughout the nose. It is fresh, balanced, complex, earthy and dry and it captures the palate with a mix of red/black berry fruits, supple tannins and spiced finish. This is a wine meant for the dinner table with plenty of grilled meats, wild boar, game birds, Cassoulets or saucisson sec. Put this one in the wine rack in the kitchen so it is handy for your next fall dinner, it won’t disappoint.
